Eager to serve as mentors, our physicians will work in partnership with you as you build your knowledge and skills through hands-on experience. Our highly personalized program features a strong core curriculum that maximizes elective options so you may explore a wider range of clinical interests.

Our residency program is unique in that it also offers you the opportunity to live where you work, in a beautiful county with a small town feel, but with the arts and cultural scene of a big city. Welcome to our new Transitional Year Residency, an ACGME-accredited program. Here, you will have the opportunity to work with our team of board-certified and fellowship-trained physicians who will support you as you provide care for a diverse patient population in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Rotations include Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, Inpatient Medicine, Quality Improvement, and multiple electives so you can personalize your training experience.

Alexander Fekete, DO

Alexander Fekete, DO, has a special interest in radiation oncology. His approach to healthcare is not focused on treating symptoms or diseases, but on understanding the unique needs of each individual patient.

Dr. Fekete’s philosophy of care is rooted in empathy and is committed to the holistic well-being of his patients. “I strive to cultivate a collaborative relationship with my patients, where open communication and mutual trust are paramount,” he says.

Nastaran Khalili, MD, enjoys building relationships with her patients and offering ongoing health education.

Neda Khalili, MD

Neda Khalili, MD, is a Transitional Year resident at Doylestown Health. She received her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and was a Research Fellow at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Khalili’s philosophy of care is to make sure her patients recognize the importance of prioritizing their health, “and to provide each patient with the level of time, dedication and commitment that I would extend to those closest to me.”

Jym Rodriguez, MD | Doylestown Health

Jym Rodriguez, MD

Jym Rodriguez, MD is a transitional year resident at Doylestown Health. In addition to his medical training and surgical expertise, he has a strong interest in research, specifically in the field of nanotechnology and its application in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Rodriguez is a bilingual physician and his philosophy of care revolves around offering patient centered medicine. “I strive to provide individualized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs, preferences and goals while ensuring they are fully informed and involved in their care,” he says.

Shuchi Sehgal, DA | Doylestown Health

Shuchi Sehgal, DO

Shuchi Sehgal, DO, is a Transitional Year resident at Doylestown Health. She will be completing her advanced training in Radiation Oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the summer of 2025. Her research interests are in health equity, pancreatic cancer, global oncology and healthcare infrastructure.

“My philosophy of care is rooted in providing empathetic medical care and steadfast support to my patients,” says Dr. Sehgal.

Laura Silverberg, MD | Doylestown Health

Laura Silverberg, MD

Laura Silverberg, MD is a transitional year resident who will be rotating through a variety of medical specialties this year. Her care focuses on adapting to each specialty to meet the unique needs of her patients and optimize care. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her cat and dog.

Berna Urkmez, MD | Doylestown Health

Berna Urkmez, MD

Berna Urkmez has a special interest in chronic pain management. Prior to joining Doylestown Health as a Transitional Year Resident, she completed a two-year training program in addiction medicine fellowship.

Dr. Urkez’s philosophy of care centers on collaborating with her patients. “I prioritize communication, teamwork, prevention, self-care, and reflection to advocate for patients and improve healthcare and society,” she says.

Shirley Wolz, DO | Doylestown Health

Shirley Wolz, DO

Shirley Wolz, DO, attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and was a Research Assistant at University of Maryland before joining Doylestown Hospital as a Transitional Year Resident.

She treats each patient as if they were those closest to her. “I will put your best health interests first. I want to work with you as a team to design a care plan that works for you and your busy lifestyle,” she says.

Mission and Purpose

Mission

The Doylestown Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program is committed to developing residents into compassionate, competent, well-rounded physicians. Our program will train Transitional Year residents to deliver high quality, evidence-based patient care to the patients in our diverse local communities. Our residents will spend ample time in both inpatient and ambulatory settings on the core rotations of surgery, inpatient medicine, ambulatory medicine, critical care, and emergency medicine. We have also maximized the elective time available to each resident throughout the year in order to best meet each resident's unique educational needs and interests and support their future career goals. Our faculty members are dedicated to teaching future physicians and look forward to welcoming you to Doylestown.

Purpose

Aligning with the mission of the Doylestown Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program, the program aims are to:

1. Provide a comprehensive curriculum to develop compassionate, highly competent, patient-centric, and ethical residents with foundational knowledge in disease prevention, and the diagnosis and management of patients.

2. Provide residents with the tools to develop relationships and collaborate with colleagues across the professional continuum.

3. Provide residents with the tools to have a strong impact on public health through community education and to become advocates for disease prevention.

4. Provide residents with the knowledge necessary to incorporate scholarly activity into their evidence-based practice.

5. Develop well-rounded residents who demonstrate knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential to enter categorical training.

6. Establish a strong foundation and promote lifelong collegial mentorship to help develop future leaders.

I am excited and honored to serve as Program Director of Doylestown Hospital’s new Transitional Year Residency. I also serve as Program Director of Doylestown Health’s Family Medicine Residency program. My professional and academic background is in family medicine, skilled nursing care, acute hospital care, and medical education. I most recently served as the Director of Inpatient Medicine/Academic Hospitalists for the Bryn Mawr Family Medicine Residency program before joining Doylestown Hospital in 2018.  I was recruited to build the hospital’s first post-acute care medical service as well as our first Family Medicine Residency program. Upon joining Doylestown Health, I had the honor of my peers acknowledging my work and accomplishments by naming me the medical director for post-acute care. We provide care at numerous facilities in the area. My passion for education has led me to serve as Clinical Assistant Professor at both Thomas Jefferson University Medical School and Philadelphia School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Teaching and education mean a great deal to me and I am humbled to have received awards for excellence in teaching of medicine. I received my medical degree from University Americana (UNIBE) Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and completed my residency at Latrobe (PA) Area Hospital.

Welcome to Doylestown Health’s new Transitional Year Residency program. I am excited to be a part of Doylestown Health’s transition to academic medicine and to have the opportunity to guide and mentor residents on their path to becoming excellent clinicians.

I am currently an outpatient Internist with Doylestown Health Internal Medicine. I received my MD/PHD degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and completed my internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. I discovered my passion for teaching while serving as an instructor of Clinical Medicine with the Department of General Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai. I moved back to my hometown of Upper Black Eddy, PA and started working at Doylestown Health in 2020. I have three young children and enjoy outdoor activities with my family, including hiking, biking, gardening and raising chickens.

In my current position as a vascular surgeon with Doylestown Health Vascular Surgery, I am part of a team of fellowship-trained vascular surgeons offering advanced care for the full spectrum of vascular conditions.

I received my medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and did my residency training in General Surgery at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). I completed my fellowship in Vascular Surgery at HUP. I also served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy there, and am currently an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Transitional Year Residency program and to Doylestown Hospital, where we offer university-level heart and vascular care in a patient-focused community hospital setting. I enjoy building relationships with my patients and providing ongoing health education and coaching to help them get and stay well. And, if surgery is needed, our team offers patients the full spectrum of open, endovascular, and hybrid procedures to treat vascular disease in a state-of-the-art endovascular, hybrid operating suite.

I am an Infectious Disease physician with Doylestown Health Infectious Disease. I received my medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, and completed my residency at Greenwich Hospital and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch. 

I strive to provide compassionate, patient-centered care that includes listening and communicating with my patients. In my personal life, I enjoy gardening with a focus on native plants and volleyball. I also have served as a ropes course facilitator — leading groups of all ages in team building and interpersonal relational exercises.

Yes, as a Transitional Year Medicine resident, you will assist physicians with patient care decisions and under their supervision, effectively communicate those decisions with the patient. The Program Leadership and Administration believe in resident advocacy and encourage open communication whether it is one-to-one or in a group setting with others. As a participant in our inaugural Transitional Year Residency, you will play a major role in the development of the program for future students. Transitional Year residents will participate in resident committees and the Graduate Medical Education Committee, where you will provide feedback about the program.

Are there ways to help the underserved community?

Yes, Transitional Year residents will have the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population, including people who are underserved, uninsured, or underinsured.

Does Doylestown Health's Family Medicine Residency program accept J1 Visas?

Unfortunately, our Family Medicine Residency program cannot accept applicants with J1 Visas at this time.

There are a multitude of options to lay down roots in central Bucks County during the tenure of your residency. The quaint borough of Doylestown is the county seat of Bucks County, and is known for its thriving business district. Especially popular among residents and visitors alike are its outdoor dining, old-time movie theater, shops, museums, and festivals. Philadelphia is approximately an hour’s drive from Doylestown and it’s a little more than that to get to New York City. With easy access to major metropolitan areas, leisurely weekend getaways to the Poconos or the Jersey Shore, Doylestown is a destination for the best of what is offered in the greater Philadelphia region. 

What can I do in my time off?

Named as USA Today’s Best Small Town Cultural Scene in America in 2019, Doylestown is known for its museums, castles, art, and theaters. Are there other residency programs at Doylestown Hospital?

Yes. Doylestown Health is committed to enhancing the knowledge, skills, and performance of our nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, leading to improved patient outcomes.

In 2020, Doylestown Health launched a Pharmacy Residency program, which recently earned accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Only 17% of hospitals host post-graduate pharmacist training programs, and Doylestown Hospital is recognized as part of this exclusive group achieving and maintaining superior standards of pharmaceutical care.

In July 2023, Doylestown Health’s Family Medicine Residency program received Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our residents work in private practices, in the hospital, and in our new, dedicated community health clinic, called Doylestown Health Family Medicine Residency Practice, at the Health and Wellness Center in Warrington.

Are there other residency programs at Doylestown Hospital?

Yes. Doylestown Health is committed to enhancing the knowledge, skills, and performance of our nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, leading to improved patient outcomes.

In 2020, Doylestown Health launched a Pharmacy Residency program, which recently earned accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Only 17% of hospitals host post-graduate pharmacist training programs, and Doylestown Hospital is recognized as part of this exclusive group achieving and maintaining superior standards of pharmaceutical care.

In July 2023, Doylestown Health’s Family Medicine Residency program received Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our residents work in private practices, in the hospital, and in our new, dedicated community health clinic, called Doylestown Health Family Medicine Residency Practice, at the Health and Wellness Center in Warrington.
