When patients needing occupational medicine services first enter the spacious waiting room at Doylestown Health’s Urgent Care location, they’ll be greeted with smiling faces they likely will see again. That’s because most of the patients who come here for work-related illnesses or injuries are followed by the same providers throughout their care as part of the facility’s Workplace Wellness Solutions program.
“I love the continuity of care that we can provide patients,” says Krystal Thomas, PA-C, program coordinator for Workplace Wellness Solutions, who recently started in her position. “We feel fortunate that we can see patients through to the end when they’re discharged to go back to work or referred to a specialist if needed.”
On the Job
While she also has roots in emergency care, Krystal has spent the last several years in occupational medicine for a reason. She says it is her favorite area of health care because of the difference she can make with patients and employers. “It’s my passion,” she adds.
In her new role at Workplace Wellness Solutions, she intends to build on the exceptional patient care experience and emphasize how she and her staff are a trusted point of contact for employers, both big and small.
“We want everyone to feel comfortable getting the care they need here and for it to be a positive experience,” she says.
Part of the patient care provided at Workplace Wellness Solutions includes treatment for work-related illnesses and injuries, pre-employment physicals, PPD (tuberculosis) testing, Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, COVID-19 testing, audiograms and drug screening.
Customizable Services
The staff can also customize different services at employers’ worksites that include wellness education, health coaching, ergonomics consulting, biometric screenings, flu shots, fit testing and pulmonary testing (temporarily on hold due to COVID-19).
No matter where the services take place, one of the most notable benefits to employers who use Workplace Wellness Solutions is knowing that their employees are taken care of in a coordinated approach and receive follow-up care with the same providers.
“It’s nice that employees can get services they need all under one roof. For employers, it is an added benefit having a point of contact with experience in occupational medicine,” Krystal says.
“I look forward to establishing connections within such a wonderful community, she adds, smiling.
